Located in the Villages of Urbana, Worthington Square was once a forgotten site with three vacant structures that were occupied with local businesses up until the 1990’s. A school house was once situated on the Western side of the property where now a small commercial pad site is proposed. Redevelopment of the site recommended a small townhouse community with a shared central green and innovative ESD (environmental site design) features that allow for interaction and enjoyment of the spaces. The site was carefully designed so that all townhomes face important public areas and roads, and the views of rears of all townhomes are minimized. Sidewalks and pedestrian paths organize and inform the design of the community. As part of the stormwater management plan, small pocket parks doubled as gardens with boardwalks and ESD features that offer polished and functional spaces of retreat.
