SRA 16-01 proposes to amend Montgomery County’s Subdivision Regulations and, among other things, restricts the use of private roads. Private roads, when properly and appropriately designed, are a useful tool to create unique, safe and efficient communities. This amendment would require that private streets meet the design criteria of public streets, effectively eliminating that which makes them special. The provision of ESD within the private road parcel would be limited. By now requiring that the private street be platted in a parcel, applicable zoning standards for setbacks may apply. The Rodgers’ Planning Team Leader, Matt Leakan; Design Management Team Leader, Bob Graham; and Survey Team Leader, Tim Quinn, got together to analyze and demonstrate the practical impact of this amendment.
