Planned as a significant regional growth center in Frederick County, Maryland and located along the I-270 Technology Corridor, the Villages of Urbana broke ground in April, 1999. Rodgers Consulting provided planning, natural resource management, engineering and surveying services, as well as assisting the client on adequate public facilities and infrastructure financing issues. Rodgers developed the conceptual plans for the Villages of Urbana and followed through with detailed design and final construction plans. In addition, Rodgers Consulting worked closely with County staff to develop a new zoning technique, which allowed the Town Center to be developed in a traditional design pattern using the principles of New Urbanism.
Urbana Merchant District
The Urbana Merchant District is the commercial component of the Villages of Urbana, it consists of approximately 256,000 sq. ft. of mixed commercial retail including a supermarket, retail stores, bank pads and a 30,000 sq. ft. regional library. Rodgers designed, obtained entitlements and prepared construction drawings for all of the buildings within the Merchant District. Rodgers is also responsible for the non-residential uses found throughout the community including; recreational facilities, daycare and medical facilities.
